In this tutorial we will go through the process of making a table-top token economy like the one in the picture below. They are very easy to make and can be done in about 5 minutes.
The template needed for this tutorial can be downloaded from the Tokens and Token Mat section on our free materials page.
Download the token economy templates from the free materials section of our website and print off the one you want on the coloured 200gram paper.
Bend the two outer edges that are marked "fold along this line". It might be helpful to use the edge of a table as a guide when creating the folds.
When creating the folds just make sure that they go down as shown below.
Now fold along the middle guideline. Again it might be useful to use the edge of a table to do this.
Take your A4 page (standard printer paper) and fold it over on itself twice. This will create a thinner piece (as on the right) that will form the base of the token economy mat. It might be useful to sellotape it together.
Take your folded A4 page and sellotape it to the two folded tabs at the bottom of the token mat. This creates the stable base for the token mat.
Stand up the token mat to make sure it is flat and level.
Make sure the Velcro you stick onto the token mat is the rough-hard Velcro and not the soft portion - the soft Velcro is typically stuck to the tokens and back-up reinforcer pictures themselves. We have placed small faded squares at the centre of each token space to allow you to align your Velcro.
Instead of printing and creating a token economy for different token amounts it might be easier to print our alternate versions where you create just one table-top token mat and velcro different flat token mats to the front of it as in the image below.
